Product Information

As its namesake suggests, Sambucus Sutherland Gold’s star quality is its rich plethora of golden foliage and dissected leaves. The foliage glows with copper red shades in spring as creamy white flowers flourish in mid spring – perfect for summer blooms. Elderberries that glow with a red lustre develop in the summer that help to feed birds in the autumn.  It’s continuous changes and developments is a real point of interest and can add rich variety to your garden.
Sambucus Sutherland Gold is a wonderful addition to mixed borders and hedges and can grow up to 4 metres between 10 to 20 years. It’s bee and butterfly friendly as well as deterring pests such as rabbits. With its ever-changing appearance and low maintenance features, it’s an investment that’s well worth making for gardeners of all levels.

Care Information

Grows best in fertile, moist well drained soils in partial shade locations – full sun can lead to leaf scorch.
Plant with a little space on either side to allow for expansion
Also thrives on extremely chalky sites
Requires an average amount of water – water occasionally
Benefits from pruning as young plant to boost future blooms
After flowering, older plants can be trimmed.
