    Product Information

Now its even easier to achieve an exotic aesthetic in your garden with our brand new Phyllostachys Collection.

Bamboo is incredibly hardy and low maintenance whilst making a dramatic impact so is the perfect choice for beginner gardeners or those with less time on their hands.

Included in the collection are the following:

    • Phyllostachys aureocaulis (Yellow bamboo) – Featuring long, slender, golden-yellow stems, which form strange zigzag patterns as they grow, providing an interesting twist and instant impact! It forms attractive and long-lasting clumps, so is ideal for hedges or screening – great for patio or barbecue areas. 600cm x 400cm
    • Phyllostachys nigra (Black Bamboo) – The canes turn a rich coffee black colour after a year or so. This bamboo is also much less invasive than others, so you don't have to worry about it taking over. Very hardy, it needs no maintenance or pruning, so is perfect for busy gardeners, yet gives year-round interest and texture to gardens of all styles and sizes. 400cm x 400cm
    • Phyllostachys bissettii (Green Bamboo) – Simple yet classic in its green tones, Green Bamboo weathers very well in hot summers and cold winters. Being vigorous and slowly invasive, it is best planted in large pots, or with plenty of space in lawns, but if you are planting near a wall or foundations, remember to use a physical barrier. 500cm x 300cm

Supplied in three 1.5L pots, one of each bamboo, ready to plant out or re-pot.

    Top Tips

Best planted in spring so that the food reserves in the rhizome are used to produce a good flush of fresh canes in summer.

    Care Information

    • Before planting, dig over the ground and add well-rotted manure or garden compost.
    • Dig a planting hole so that the rootball sits slightly lower, with 2-3cm (1in) of soil covering the original surface
    • Backfill the hole then water and mulch.
    • Water regularly and ensure that bamboo plants in containers do not dry out even in winter as the foliage is prone to wind scorch.
    • Give a high nitrogen feed in spring and apply a balanced fertiliser through the rest of the growing season until late August.
    • New bamboo plants can be contained within a physical barrier to prevent them spreading through beds and borders.
    • Divide the bamboo every couple of years.
    • In spring, remove any weak, dead, damaged or spindly canes, cutting them to ground level with secateurs or loppers, at the same time remove any debris at the base of clumps.
    • In very cold weather, insulate containers with bubble wrap or move them to frost-free conditions.
