Description

Add a touch of paradise to your garden with this tropical looking climber. Large white flowers with central filaments of cornflower blue, deep purple and soft white offer a stunning multi -layering effect, which the passionflower is renowned for. Along with being highly aesthetically pleasing, the Passiflora is a perfect choice for any garden because of their ease of growing, toughness and resilience - these are hardy once established, but in colder areas, be sure to grow against a South facing wall or in large pots. The blue passionflower is a vigorous, trouble-free climber that thrives in hot summers and will quickly cover a sunny wall or fence. Even the leaves are pretty too; deeply lobed, dark green and glossy. A fabulous, lush evergreen climber and a great alternative to Clematis. The flowers are very waxy and long lasting - their amazing shape and detail are a joy to behold.....what's not to love?

Supplied as an established plant in a 2L pot, approximately 90cm tall, trained onto a cane.

Top Tips
If your passionflower is overgrown or badly frost-damaged, carry out renovation in spring by cutting back the stems to 30-60cm (1-2ft) from soil level and it will respond by sending out new shoots.
Care Information
Planting Advice for Passiflora Passion flowers tends to bloom particularly well when their roots are restricted by a container or path side border. When planting in a container, use John Innes No 3 potting compost, or any good quality compost. Pot-grown shrubs can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen. Water your potted plant well, then dig a hole a little deeper and 3 x wider than the nursery pot. Add a soil conditioner such as well-rotted manure to the earth removed from the hole if necessary. Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots. Place your plant in the hole at the same level at the pot. Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling). Firm in the soil with your heel, avoiding the root ball. Water well and mulch around the base of the plant with a collar, compost, gravel, bark etc. Aftercare Advice Water well and regularly for the first few months. With a robust and rapidly growing root system, your plant will establish rapidly. Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds. Apply a generous layer of mulch around the base of the plant after planting and thereafter annually. Pruning Advice for Passion Flower Little pruning is needed apart from removing any branches that are dead, damaged or diseased. If your passion flower is overgrown or badly frost-damaged, carry out renovation in spring by cutting back the stems to 30-60cm (1-2ft) from soil level and your plant will respond by sending out new shoots.
