Product Information

So appropriately named, ‘Early Sunrise’ produce wonderful double sunshine yellow flowers on tall, slender stems above compact mounds of dense thread-like feathery foliage, which gives them the alternative name of ‘threadleaf’, while their more common name, 'tickseed,' refers to the seeds which resemble ticks and are a great favourite of garden finches.

Coreopsis is a naturally rugged prairie plant and ideally suited to today's low maintenance gardens. Easy to grow, drought tolerant, and long blooming, Coreopsis certainly earn its keep in a sunny flower border, rewarding you with an abundance of stunning flowers throughout summer and well into autumn.

Top Tips

Deadhead plants regularly to keep them blooming through the summer.

Care Information

Planting Advice:

  • Grow in full sun in soil that drains well.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds.
  • Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil.
  • Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep and wide enough to set in the rootball.
  • The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps and your heel on larger areas.
  • Water in well to settle the soil and prevent desiccation.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Coreopsis will need regular water when first planted until they are established. After that, they are quite drought tolerant.
  • Deadheading will keep the plants blooming throughout the summer.
  • Leave the stems on the plants for autumn and winter interest, before tiding up in late winter.
