Despite the main flush of flowers arriving in early summer, fresh growth springs to attention through the season on this hardy perennial. The semi-evergreen foliage evolves in clumps, with strap-like outstretching leaves and high-reaching green stems that display the floral eruptions.

Top Tips
- You will often get more flowers by restricting the roots, so witness exceptional performances by planting in a pot.
Care Information
- Prior to planting, water the potted plant well.
- Dig a hole slightly deeper and three times the width of the supplied nursery pot.
- Add a soil conditioner, such as well-rotted manure, to the earth removed from the hole if necessary.
- Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots, then place the plant in the hole at the same level as it was in the nursery pot.
- Refill the hole with the earth removed then firm in the spoil with your heel, avoiding the root ball. Use your hands for smaller clumps.
- Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser once a month from spring until flowering. From the end of September, reduce watering and feeding to allow the foliage to harden.
- In colder parts of the UK, cover the crown of the plant with a deep, dry mulch to protect the plants from harder frosts, or grow in a pot so they can be overwintered in a sheltered location, such as an unheated greenhouse.
