Description

One of the prettiest daffodils out there, Narcissus 'Thalia' adds pleasing highlights to any springtime garden.

Once a favourite among Victorian gardeners, flowers emerge in a delicate greeny-white shade, maturing to bright creamy white as they open and contrasting beautifully against dark-green foliage.

Also known as 'Angel's Tears', this classic trumpet daffodil has multi-headed, downward-pointing blooms that will dance delightfully on the spring breeze.

With stems of a medium length, 'Thalia' is a versatile variety that will look outstanding at the front of beds, borders and rock gardens, or in pots and containers. Plant in groups or drifts through grass or underplant deciduous trees and shrubs, where they will naturalise easily and reward with bigger and better displays each year.

They also make a fabulous cut flower – not least for their wonderfully strong fragrance – so be sure to plant enough to fill your vases several times over, and maybe even a couple for your loved ones!

Plant in groups of 6 to 10 for maximum impact, in full sun or semi-shade, either on their own or with other spring-flowering bulbs of different colours for an eye-catching display.

Supplied as a pack of 20 bulbs for planting in the autumn.

Top Tips

For a natural look, throw a handful onto a grassy area and plant them where they fall.

Which way up? Usually pointy end up, but if you are not sure, plant the bulb on its side and it will right itself.

Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots before planting to encourage faster and more reliable establishment.

Propagate by removing offsets in the early summer to populate new areas.

Care Information

Planting advice for your Narcissus bulbs:

  • Plant 10-15cm deep and 10cm apart in sun or partial shade, in well-drained, fertile soil.
  • Spring-flowering bulbs should be planted in the autumn for displays next season. This allows them to establish a good root system before the weather becomes too cold.
  • Please check the bag for any additional planting instructions.
  • Use a good-quality potting compost such as our premium professional compost for the best results.
  • The bulbs are fine to plant even if a little green growth is showing; they will just need a good watering when you plant them, and thereafter only when the soil is dry.
  • Plant in herbaceous borders, in pots, or in the ground to naturalise.

Aftercare advice for your Narcissus bulbs:

  • Water frequently and if in pots, ensure that the compost doesn't dry out.
  • While all the energy that a bulb needs in order to grow is stored in the bulb itself, they will do better if you feed them when in active green growth.
  • Leave foliage to die back naturally after flowering; never tie up the foliage or cut it back while still green. This allows as much energy as possible to go back into the bulbs for the following year.
  • Leave them in the ground once they die back and they will come back with bigger and better displays each year.

Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
