Care Information

Planting Advice for Fritillaria uva-vuplis

  • Needs a moderately fertile, very well-drained soil and is intolerant of wet when dormant. Handle the fragile bulbs carefully and plant at four times their own depth.
  • Plant in a sunny position where they can get some shade during the hottest part of the day – they are ideal for gravel gardens.

Aftercare Advice for Fritillaria uva-vuplis:

  • If growing in a pot, put a layer of gravel at the bottom of the pot to help keep the compost draining freely.
  • Add a handful of coarse sand or grit to the potting compost and then place the bulbs in a planting hole 3 times as deep as the height of the bulbs.
  • To protect the bulbs against frost, place the pot in a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap over winter.
  • Water during dry periods.

Trimming advice for fritillaries:

  • Allow the stem to turn brown before cutting off close to the soil.
