Description

Why not grow something a little bit different this year and give the 'Caribbean Lily' a chance to wow any and all garden guests?

Also known as the 'Portuguese Squill', this is a glamorous Mediterranean bulb, which can be seen lighting up the herbaceous borders of grand estates and gardens up and down the country.

An absolute show-stopper that will bring a touch of class to any garden, whether placed in borders, or even on a decking or balcony in your very favourite container.

Looking much like a cross between a hyacinth and an allium, this bulbous perennial forms a rosette of narrowly lance-shaped dark green leaves which are semi evergreen, especially in mild winters.

Eye-catching, violet-blue flowers are the main attraction, each being a 1.5cm wide star, and carried in large, conical heads in early summer - perfect for bringing colour to beds, borders and patio pots when tulips have faded, and perennials are still gearing up.

Supplied as 3 bulbs, size 16/18 ready to plant out in autumn. They will ideally be planted in well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade.

Top Tips
In the wild, the bulbs grow at or just above the soil surface, so to copy these conditions, plant the bulbs shallowly so the very tip of the bulb is right at the soil surface, spaced about 20-25cm (8-10in) apart.
Care Information
  • Scilla peruviana should be grown in well-drained soil with added grit or sharp sand. The Peruvian lily will not tolerate soil that is heavy and waterlogged.
  • During the summer months, the soil should stay as dry as possible while the bulbs are dormant, then, when in growth, plants will need regular watering before, during and right after flowering.
  • In the wild, the bulbs grow at or just above the soil surface, so to copy these conditions, plant the bulbs shallowly so the very tip of the bulb is right at the soil surface, spaced about 20-25cm (8-10in) apart.
  • In colder areas, Scilla peruviana can be grown in containers. Plant the bulbs as above and feed before and immediately after flowering.
  • Once the foliage fades, stop watering and put the pot in a protected area where it won’t get too much rain. Bring the container indoors in autumn to protect the bulbs from cold.

Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
