Description

See months of beautiful blooms on this superb collection of three sturdy and robust proven garden performers.

The Salvia ‘Salgoon Lake’ collection consists of a trio of varieties, each producing flowers in a different colour and form, adding much-needed varied beauty to any display when planted en masse in pots or bedding displays.

Floral spikes erupt from strong, green foliage, each boasting a show of tubular flowers in varying shades, including dark blue, cherry pink, and magenta. As a long-flowering series, impressive blooms can be seen for months, from spring through to late autumn.

Enjoy plenty of excitement in the garden, as this blockbuster collection is a real magnet for buzzing pollinators.

Supplied as six plug plants, including two each of:

  • Salvia ‘Salgoon Lake Blueberry’ – Compact grower with dark blue spires of blooms.
  • Salvia ‘Salgoon Lake Garda’ – Pretty cherry pink flowers grow up to the sky from healthy foliage.
  • Salvia ‘Salgoon Lake Strawberry’ – A moderately compact variety with magenta flowers on strong spires.
Top Tips
To prolong flowering remove the flower spikes as soon as the blooms start to fade.
Care Information

Planting Advice:

  • Unpack plugs immediately and stand them in water for an hour.
  • If you can’t do this, they can sit in their mini greenhouse for a week if upright and not too wet.
  • Plugs may be slightly dry or yellow after being in a dark box in the post, but they’ll quickly recover.
  • Put them somewhere warm, light and airy such as on a windowsill or in the greenhouse.
  • When potting on, handle plugs carefully. Pot on using our 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost.
  • Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry. They don’t like to be left in standing water.
  • Plant approx. 20cm apart to allow them room to grow.
  • Feed using a high-potash feed such as Blooming Fast Superior Soluble Fertiliser for Flowers & Fruits, to encourage flowering.
  • Salvias grow best in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, avoid excessively exposed areas and waterlogged soils.
  • Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over and removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary.
  • When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting.

Aftercare Advice:

  • Feed and water regularly until plants are fully established.
  • Although perennial, these Salvia will require some winter protection outdoors in the form of a straw mulch and if growing it in containers, move to a cold greenhouse or conservatory to prevent the cold from penetrating to the roots.
  • In spring, apply a generous 5-7cm mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.

Pruning Advice:

  • Prune lightly in late spring when new growth appears to remove dead stems and to maintain a bushy shape.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
