Product Information

Some of the best perennials around, these Hosta boast mounded colourful foliage that wouldn’t look out of place on an exotic jungle floor.

Sought-after for their ability to thrive whether in dappled shade or sun, these Plantain Lilies are hardy, easy to grow, and each make for fabulous ground cover beneath trees and shrubs with large leaves. Perfect choices for filling bed or border gaps, as well as empty-looking patio pots.

If you’re caught between which variety to grow, why not go for three? This collection combines ‘Blue Angel’, ‘Wide Brim’, and ‘Patriot’ for a varied show of both leaf colour and summertime bell-shaped blooms.

These varieties even proudly hold the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, so are proven garden performers, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant these in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Supplied as a set of three established plants in 2L pots, including one each of:

  • Hosta ‘Blue Angel’ – Lavender-white blooms rise from wavy-edged blue-grey leaves. Grows up to H80cm, flowering June-July.
  • Hosta ‘Patriot’ – Spires of blue flowers perch above rich olive-green leaves, each variegated in cream at the edges. Nectar-rich flowers are loved by bees. Grows up to H75cm, flowering July-August.
  • Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ – Thick mounded foliage of heart-shaped, dark greenish blue leaves, edged in cream. Pale lavender funnel flowers rise in summer. Grows up to H45cm, flowering June-July.

Top Tips

Plant these Hostas in a position of full sun for at least half of the day during summer to witness the best leaf colour.

Care Information

  • Before planting, incorporate plenty of organic matter into the soil. These Hosta prefer a rich, moisture retentive soil.
  • Knock the plants out from their container then look at the roots – if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the root ball along the bottom edge and pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread out into the surrounding soil once in the ground.
  • Use a trowel or spade to create holes just deep and wide enough to set in the rootballs. Aim to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground.
  • Firm back around the soil using your hand for small clumps, or your heel on larger areas.
  • Keep plants well-watered while establishing, and mulched with well-rotted organic matter.
  • These Hosta can be grown in most types of containers, using a good, multi-purpose compost. Ensure they are kept well-watered. If growing in pots, feed monthly with a general-purpose liquid feed.
  • Protect from slugs and snails.
  • If you find that your Hosta are suffering from scorched leaves, move them to a position with more shelter and shade.
